CNN reported (click HERE) that obesity is responsible for 100,000 cases of cancer each year. The types of cancer reported to have stemmed from obesity are: endometrial, esophageal, pancreatic, kidney, gallbladder, and breast cancer. The research shows that "increased body fat can lead to increased levels of oxidative stress and inflammatory compounds in the blood."
Based upon what we've learned from other researchers, like Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Sears, we know that the root cause of obesity is hyperinsulinemia, or glucose intolerance. This is caused by too many carbohydrates in the diet in relation to one's intake of protein and fat. Excessive carbs creates an inflammatory storm within the body's cells that leads to all kinds of health-related issues.
It seems that if you go after the root cause of any problem, you'll solve the problem instead of just putting a bandaid on it. Imagine how many health issues would disappear if we had a campaign of proper dieting. The resulting savings in lives and treatment for diet-related illnesses (heart disease, cancer, etc.) would likely reduce the cost of healthcare as the demand for healthcare services diminished. Perhaps there's another route to reduced healthcare costs?
