Here's the latest news from the Town of Ocean City - click HERE. To sum it up, if you're not out of town by 5 pm tonight, you'll be stuck. Right now, no one is allowed in.
As for the rest of Worcester County, the County Commissioners ordered the evacuation of West Ocean City and surrounding areas - click HERE. Anyone east of Herring Creek and in all areas south to South Point must evacuate by 9 a.m. Saturday. Schools were ordered not to open on Monday as the aftermath is unknown. As such, we won't be open either.
Fortunately, we live about 10 miles from the beach on fairly high ground. Our biggest danger will be the 100 mph winds. Only one large tree is a threat, so hopefully it won't come down on the house if it comes down at all. Our generator is working. Outside stuff is put away. We have food, water, and beverages. We're prepared, hopefully, for whatever comes our way.
The latest track puts Hurricane Irene slightly east of earlier projections. The impact will still be significant, but any shift eastward will help.
